A new website, again!
Third time's a charm! New website!
So I'm on my third iteration of kevinborrill.co.uk. A fresh start to show off my work and thoughts. I really want this site to be almost like an extension of my brain.
It's been a long time coming, but I've finally got around to building something I'm happy with. And it only took a brand new way of working to get me to do it.
Cursor

I've been using Cursor for a few months now, and it's changed the way I work. I've never been a fan of AI in code editors, but Cursor is the exception.
I had originally been playing with Copilot in VS Code, but I found it to be too slow and clunky. I've been impressed with the speed of Cursor.
The quality hasn't always been up to scratch, but it's not been far off! Allowing me to focus on the way I want to structure my site and content instead of getting bogged down with the actual nitty gritty code.
What started out as a bit of an experiment turned out to be a bit of fun and probably a game changer for me!
If you're keen on looking into Cursor further for your dev workflow may I recommend you check out the Cursor website, and this handy YouTube video that got me started...
Next.js
I'm a massive fan of Next.js. I've been using it for a few years now and it's a great framework. Especially enjoying coming from the ranks of a hardcore SPA react developer, it's refreshing to have nicities of not having to go through the madness of picking a router, deciding where to store state, how to handle SEO, etc. It's also allowed me to embrace SSR properly and all the fun the Node.js ecosystem has to offer.
I'm hoping it will be a great platform for this site, hopefully a bit speedier than my previous iterations.
Wrapping up
I'm really happy with the new site. It's a lot more flexible and easier to maintain. I've also got some ideas for some new features to come. But I'll save those for another post...
Looking forward to dumping all my notes, thoughts, ideas and cool finds into this site.
Thanks for reading!
